Running Socials

program overview

We invite you to join us on our social runs. Whether you are an avid runner, new to running, or an aspirational runner, these events are for all ages and ALL ABILITY LEVELS.

Together, let's break down the misperception of what a runner looks like and what running is:

  • Running doesn’t discriminate; it’s for ALL body types, shapes, sizes, and ages.

  • You can do it anywhere (city or trail), 365 days of the year and in all weather conditions - even the snow and rain.

  • Running can become part of your lifestyle; it doesn’t have to be a seasonal activity.

  • You don’t have to run fast or run the entire time; you can alternate between walking, jogging, hiking - even skipping or dancing if you please! You can run 1 min, 1km, 10km or 100km - it’s what you make of it.

We want to build a community of Indigenous female* runners and share the transformational experience that running can have on your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

about our social runs

We are grateful to the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh, and Líl̓wat peoples whose territories we will be recreating on. We walk gently on the land.

Year-round, we will be hosting social running events - both trail and road running. At these socials, will talk about proper form and technique as well as other important topics such as gear, nutrition, self-love, and strength training.

For the time being, our trail runs will be predominately in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and the road runs will be both in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Vancouver. We will aim to host a social run every week or bi-weekly.

IWO will also be working with partners to support our community with:

  • gear

  • coaching

  • entry into running events

  • running plans for training
