2020-2021 Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding Mentorship

 

In December 2020,

IWO created their first Backcountry Ski and Snowboard Mentorship Program.

6 indigenous women joined the cohort

8 Indigenous women joined the cohort, including the two IWO program leaders.

 

ast certified

Everyone got Avalanche Safety Training (AST) certified,

workshops and ski days

We ran workshops including intro to backcountry travel, map & compass navigation, a Search and Rescue safety, backcountry cooking & nutrition and snow science. As well as backcountry skiing/snowboarding days in the mountains.
